How to Connect Gamecaster to Twitch and YouTube
Gamecaster is a great free streaming program that you can easily use on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and more. But, how do you connect Gamecaster to those platforms? Today, I’ll show you how to quickly set up Gamecaster for your favorite streaming site.
I’m going to assume you already have Gamecaster, formerly XSplit Gamecaster, installed on your computer and ready to go.
This is for version 4 of the Gamecaster software, which is free to use without a watermark.
Get Gamecaster today…it’s completely free!When you first install Gamecaster, it should ask you for your first streaming service.
If you didn’t have one, skipped the step, or otherwise need to add another, then this tutorial is for you.
The process is relatively simple and straightforward.
Connect Gamecaster to Streaming Platforms
The entire process should only take you a couple of minutes.
Step 1: Access Your Settings
With Gamecaster open, click the gear icon on the bottom left.
A new window will pop up. This is where you’ll find all kinds of information such as account, stream and recording settings, game overlays, and tipping.
It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to get familiar with everything in this window. It can save you a lot of headaches later on.
Step 2: Open the Streaming Settings
On the left of this new window, click the “Platforms” option.
In this area, you can add all of the different streaming services you want Gamecaster to connect. By default, you currently have access to Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, Restream, and Custom RTMP.
Step 3: Connect Your Streaming Service to Gamecaster
Click the service you want to add to your Gamecaster app. For this tutorial, I’m going to set up YouTube.
NOTE: You need an account on any one of these services in order to connect it to Gamecaster.
Now, the next step depends on what service you decided to connect. But all of them have a similar process. In this case, I’m accessing YouTube.
Step 4: Authorize Your Account
For Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook, a new browser window will load. You’ll be asked to authorize Gamecaster to connect to your channel.
If You’re using YouTube, select the channel you want to use. If you only have one, this should be a no-brainer. But, I manage quite a few, so I will select the Colorado Plays channel.
Simply follow the instructions on the screen for your preferred platform.
That’s all there is to it. Now, Gamecaster will be authorized and ready to stream on your platform of choice.
Of course, this doesn’t include using a custom RTMP, which I’ll cover in another blog post.
How Do You Switch Which Platform to Stream To?
What if you have both a Twitch and YouTube channel for streaming? What if you wanted to go onto Facebook instead?
At the bottom middle of Gamecaster, click the icon of the current platform that you connect. It’s right next to the “Stream” button.
This will bring up the Platform screen again. From here, you can make a new connection for Gamecaster. But, what if you just want to switch to the one you already have added?
For instance, I connected Twitch when installing and I just added YouTube. What if I wanted to go back to Twitch?
Click the “Streaming” option on the left.
From here, you’ll have a few settings you can change, such as the stream delay or saving a copy of the stream onto your computer.
Click the drop-down box to show all of the services Gamecaster supports.
Choose the platform you want from the list.
NOTE: You can create a new connection by clicking one of these on the list. It’ll work the same way as it does in the “Platform” settings window by opening a new tab to authorize the connection.
Once you select the service you want to use, just close the popup window.
You’ll see that the icon at the bottom change according to the service you selected. In my case, I went from YouTube to Twitch.
Can You Multistream with Gamecaster with Other Services You Connect?
Unfortunately, XSplit Gamecaster doesn’t have a built-in method for multistreaming. You can only stream live videos to one site at a time.
However, you can connect to Restream.io for free in Gamecaster and multistream that way.
Connecting Gamecaster to a Restream account lets you stream to multiple platforms for free. But, you will have to deal with the Restream branding on the video unless you upgrade from the free account.
Just keep in mind that Twitch has a policy regarding multistreams. You cannot multistream video if you are an Affiliate. In fact, technically, you have to wait 24 hours before being able to show Twitch video anywhere else on the Internet.
Though, the policy isn’t strictly enforced as I’ve seen a lot of people do it. But, be warned…they can drop the hammer on you if you’re caught.
How Much Does XSplit Gamecaster Cost to Use?
Gamecaster is a completely free program for streaming or recording videos. With that said, you can earn Gamecaster Gold in which you use to buy premium overlays, widgets, and other fun gear directly on the app.
Other than the “gold” aspect, you can use Gamecaster without watermarks or throttled resolutions absolutely free.
Does Gamecaster Connect to Spotify, and Why?
One of the platforms you can connect to in Gamecaster is Spotify. This is so you can share music while streaming your game. Of course, you want to use free music to avoid DMCA strike notices from Twitch and/or YouTube.
Gamecaster comes with its own playlist of royalty-free music you can use. The library isn’t massive, but it may be enough to keep your viewers engaged while watching you play.
Get Streaming with Gamecaster
XSplit Gamecaster has come a long way since its inception. Now, it’s a much larger beast with plenty of features. Plus, Gamecaster makes it quite easy to connect to the most popular video platforms.
One of the more interesting facets is the ability to quickly install and use overlays. Although there are plenty of premium ones locked behind Gamecaster Gold, the free visuals are nothing to scoff at.
Give it a try yourself and see if it’s something worthwhile. Since it’s free, the only thing you lose is a bit of time.
