Slowly But Surely – Fixing the Blog and Getting the Channel Rollin’

Last Updated on February 25, 2025 by Michael Brockbank

Since the beginning of 2025, I’ve spent time working on revamping the blog and trying to figure out a good flow for streaming and videos. And so far, it’s been coming together, albeit a bit slower than I would like. A lot of that is because of a severe lack of time. However, I still think it’s worth the effort.

Aside from the fact that I never give up, there is still quite a bit of potential for Colorado Plays. Not to mention the fact that it’s been nice getting back into streaming some games and making a few videos each week.

I suppose Colorado Plays is more of a way for me to relax than anything. It’s combining two of my favorite pastimes: gaming and writing.

CP YouTube Banner v1.0

How I Would Love to End the Quarter

With about a month left in the first quarter, time is running out on a few of my goals for the brand. Most of it is related to content, but there are a few things I’d love to wrap up before the end of March.

I’ve been tinkering with my schedule again to see if I can work these things in while still finishing my book and managing the other YouTube channels.

Maintaining the Blog Schedule

So far, I’ve been pushing to keep the Tuesday and Thursday schedule for the blog when it comes to new content. Sometimes, that meant writing on a Tuesday morning to make sure something was published on time. That’s what I’m doing right now, actually.

The first two months of 2025 have been a bit more hectic than normal, and too much is getting put on the back burner until the last minute. I’m hoping to get back to a point where I am a week ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, that means sacrificing a few things here and there throughout the week.

Nonetheless, I’m going to do everything in my power to keep the two-per-week schedule going until I can hire another writer. It’s not that I don’t have topics to write about. There are just some things that have a much higher priority – such as family and doctor visits.

Getting the YouTube Channel on Schedule

I think I have a good flow for current gaming content on the YouTube channel. If I record for an hour and chop it up into 20-minute videos, I can get something uploaded three times per week. The best part is that I can work on the blog posts as the video is rendered on my computer. So, I’m essentially doing two things at once.

I have a few more ideas for other types of content, such as tutorials or reviews. But those are probably going to center purely around the blog posts I already have published as I plan to use them as scripts.

In any case, we currently have 108 subscribers and not a lot of views on the few videos that are up. But, that’s how everyone starts before building momentum. I’m not discouraged in the slightest. I managed to get my writing channel monetized, and I’m sure I can do it for the gaming channel.

Hiring and Training Another Writer

One of my goals before the end of March is to hire and train a writer. I have a few extra bucks each month from the writing channel and blog, so I can afford at least one or two pieces of content each month. Unfortunately, the people I am considering have never used WordPress – which is what I use for the website.

That means sitting the candidates down and showing them how to create a blog post. On the upside, though, this would probably give me a chance to make a few videos for my other YouTube channel showing others how to use the Gutenberg block editor. I suppose it’s not necessarily a bad thing overall. It might even help me get a few more views.

The hardest part is – you guessed it – carving out a bit of time to train someone. That’s part of why I want to make a video or two for the writing channel. I need content on that channel anyway, so I would be killing two birds with one stone.

Social Sharing App

I need to get more active on social media, but I don’t have the time to log into every account throughout the week. Social sharing apps are a blessing, in this regard.

From a single platform, you can update all of your social accounts with scheduled content. This means you could spend about an hour creating a week’s worth of posts and schedule them to publish automatically.

I need to test out a few social sharing apps for the writing blog anyway. For that blog post, I’ll use Colorado Plays as the guinea pig to see which one is more ideal. Or, perhaps I’ll have it centered on marketing a gaming channel and write the post for this blog. Either way, I’m getting much-needed content for one or the other.

Update At Least Five Blog Posts

I haven’t had a chance to update much so far in 2025. Since I prioritize new content higher, I just haven’t had the time to dive into some of the incredibly old blog posts.

Luckily, a lot of what I can update will come in the form of a new piece of content. For instance, there are a lot of Streamlabs OBS articles on this site. Well, Streamlabs changed the name to “Desktop.” I can write new and current tutorials while setting up redirects from the old ones.

In any case, my goal for March is to update at least five blog posts. At this moment, that is one per week, which shouldn’t be too bad as long as I can sit at my desk for longer than 25 minutes without being distracted.

Still Doing Better Than Q4 of 2024

Current Performance

Despite having a bit of a sluggish start in 2025, the blog is still doing much better than it was by the end of 2024. Comparing the last three months, the number of clicks from Google increased by 40.15% and the number of impressions went up by 9.22%.

Even the click-through rate has increased by 0.2%. Hey, anything is better than none at all.

Granted, there is still more than a month in the first quarter, and a lot can happen in the meantime. Yet, it’s a good sign that things are starting to take shape. Of course, it’s better the quell the excitement from just two months of effort. Sure, it looks good on paper. But it takes more than consistent blogging to rebuild a dead website.

I’m almost positive that the impressions will go up exponentially as soon as I can fix the older posts and set up some internal links. But at the moment, things are looking better than they have been.

It’s going to be more difficult to build up the YouTube channel, I think. Not only do we need to have consistency with video uploads, but we also have to play and share things people want. If no one is looking for it, they’re not going to watch it.

I have a few ideas that may pan out relatively well for the channel throughout the second quarter, though. That is as long as I can squirrel away the time to get them done.

I’m even debating on upgrading to the Boost version of vidIQ for video ideas and whatnot. Right now, I’m paying for the Pro version, but that’s connected to my writing channel. If anything, it would give me even more content to publish.

What Would You Like to See More Of?

There are several tutorials and reviews on the horizon. With any luck, some of those will also become videos soon after they are published. This entire venture hinges on time management. As I said earlier, though, there are some things that will always take a higher priority than mere content.

Health and family are perhaps the two most important.

Regardless, I’m still pushing to at least get the blog back to where it was a few years ago. At this point, I’d settle for where it was this time last year. It was in the middle of 2024 when Google decimated the site’s visibility.

It’s an uphill battle, but that just makes the victory all the better when I get there.
