Extra Life: What We’re Doing for 2023…Hopefully
Last Updated on January 13, 2023 by Michael Brockbank
It’s that time again. Actually, I signed up ColoradoPlays for Extra Life on the first day of 2023. I don’t like to waste time getting things rolling. And I’m hoping this year will be our biggest one yet.
Though, that’s not saying much considering how we haven’t had a chance to do much in the past. As everyone has odd hours and I’ve been ultra busy for the past few years, a lot of things have suffered.
All you can really do is chalk it up to “sometimes, life happens.”
Anyway, 2023 will personally be my 10th year participating in Extra Life. And it’s something we get excited about every year. I just hope we’re able to do even a fraction of the fun stuff we have planned.
What’s the Plan for Extra Life 2023?
Like every year, I plan on doing so much more with ColoradoPlays. Unfortunately, I often have to postpone projects or simply run out of time.
My regular job and projects usually tap me out every day.
Yet, I am planning to do more this year. And if my current work schedule stays the way it is, I should have time to get a lot more done to help Extra Life in 2023.
Let’s not forget, 30% of everything this website makes is donated to Extra Life.
Get More Live Streams and Videos Going
My kids and I have been pretty good at keeping the Sunday night live stream schedule on YouTube. They’ve been a great help in keeping me motivated to keep streaming, actually.
We haven’t done much with Twitch, though. With all of the controversies and issues coming out of Twitch lately, I’ve been leaning more toward YouTube.
Not like YouTube is any better with its newly rolled-out “cussing penalty” and pain-in-the-ass algorithm.
However, I would like to get more regular video content on the YouTube channel as well as more time on Twitch. I’m still working out the logistics of that, but it shouldn’t be too much of an extra burden.
Play Around a Bit with Some Support Platforms
One of the things I wanted to do this year was to sign us up for a support and donation platform of some kind. I use Buy Me a Coffee for WriterSanctuary, and that seems to work out nicely.
Though, I am more partial to Ko-Fi, to be honest.
Then there are platforms like 4th Wall, Patreon, and a slew of others. I just need to sit down and see which one is going to be more beneficial for ColoradoPlays.
Not to mention coming up with member perks, which will force me to keep working on ColoradoPlays’s content.
Fixing Up the Blog
I keep threatening to do something with this blog every year. Perhaps since 2023 is my 10th year anniversary with Extra Life, I should get on that and get some content going.
Actually, I’ve been talking to a couple of new writers to help me out in this regard. Thanks to the money coming in from the other websites, I can afford a bit of help each month.
The more traffic we get to the blog, the more money it can donate to Extra Life. Between AdSense, Amazon, and other affiliates, I’m hoping to break quite a few milestones for ColoradoPlays this year.
And of Course, Game Day!
Everyone here gets excited for the first weekend in November. I don’t think we’ve missed a single Extra Life game day since we started this journey.
With any luck, I’ll have a separate machine running the stream while automatically jumping from one point of view to another. It’s going to be a bit of a pain to set it up correctly on everyone’s computer, but I think it’ll be worth the trouble.
If you’re curious, I have the timer running on the website with the correct time of when we’ll start playing during Game Day.

What’s Our Extra Life Record to Beat in 2023?
The most we generated for Extra Life was back in 2019. We raised a total of $71.00, mostly through personal donations from us as well as the 30% cut from whatever the blog makes.
It’s a bit on the disappointing side, really. Sure, every dollar helps. But I still feel bad and know we could have done better.
Since we don’t make but $0.02 per month on Twitch and the YouTube channel isn’t monetized, we can only give what we have. And since I’ve been slacking with developing the blog, it’s made less and less every year.
Keep in mind that I manage three other blogs, three YouTube channels, daily clients for my regular job, am an active author, and manage a podcast. My time is kind of at a premium.
Still, I think we can do better this year and I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with this website.
Are You Playing for Extra Life in 2023?
Ever since I had to take my oldest daughter to Children’s Hospital, Extra Life has held a special place in my heart. That’s because of what the organization represents and how I can help Children’s Hospital as they helped us.
I’ll keep doing what I can to help in any way possible. I just wish it was more.
